2. Zookeeper
The role of a zookeeper will involve interaction with the public. Their recruitment process will therefore include a basic DBS check. This is to ensure the public, particularly vulnerable adults and children are kept safe. If your role includes general cleaning, feeding and maintenance duties, only a basic DBS check is required. In addition to general cleaning and feeding, a standard DBS check is required for roles involving more direct contact with the animals. Some zookeepers undertake entertainment as part of their role. With the general public, feeding times and petting practices, with children present, an enhanced DBS check is required.
3. Traffic Warden
As traffic wardens work in a position of reasonability with daily interactions with the public, you will be asked to complete a standard DBS check when applying for this role. Your standard DBS check will verify whether you have any unspent or spent convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings in existence on the Police National Computer.
4. Chiropractor
In their job role, chiropractors work daily in close proximity to the public. Therefore, you will need to undergo an enhanced DBS check. This level is necessary to ensure the safety of the public especially vulnerable and children. An enhanced DBS check will show any spent or unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings the applicant has, as well as any other relevant information held by the applicant’s local police force.
5. Farmer
Applicants must complete a basic DBS check to confirm their suitability for the role. DBS checks are necessary for all professionals in the UK which involve a degree of interaction with the public.
6. Librarian
Librarians may be involved in unsupervised teaching, training or instruction of children, these activities are classed as regulated activity with children. Therefore, typically librarians will be eligible for an enhanced DBS check.
7. Painter and decorators
Painters and decorators in the UK have a legal obligation to take a basic DBS check. However, some working environments such as schools, colleges, universities, care homes and hospitals will be occupied by either vulnerable adults, children, or both. An enhanced DBS check may be required in these situations. The employer can only apply on behalf of the applicant. Football stewards are eligible for a standard DBS check as they play an important role in helping to ensure the safety of football spectators. They are in contact with the public which include vulnerable adults or children. Therefore, they will require a DBS check to ensure they are suitable for the role.
9. Taxidermist
In order to work as a taxidermist in the UK, you must undergo a basic DBS check. A basic DBS for a taxidermist will require a search to verify if you have any unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions.
